There Were No Cameras There
A song I wrote about my son after having a moment that I didn't want to forget but had no way to remember
January 7, 2025
One day I met you in September
For the first time under fluorescent light
Because there were no cameras there
I had to try, I had to try to capture this moment in my head
But I fear, I fear over time it will fade
To recall whether it was hot or cold
And if it was day or night
And whether we were there alone
Or somebody was close by
But one thing I’ll always know
No matter what details fade
Is how much I loved you then
And how that has never changed
One day when you were little in September
We were swinging in the mountain air
I don’t expect you to remember
And I can’t show you cause there were no cameras there
So I had to try, I had to try to capture this moment in my head
But I know, I know over time it will fade
To recall whether it was hot or cold
And if it was day or night
And whether we were there alone
Or somebody was close by
But one thing I’ll always know
No matter what details fade
Is how much I loved you then
And how that has never changed
Even when yesterday drifts away
And I lose track of all the little things
I’ll remember the warmth I felt
Whenever you’d laugh or sing
For in the end, it’s not the date or place
That holds our story’s worth
It’s the love we carry deep within
That lights our path on earth
But writing this song has allowed me
To recall whether it was hot or cold
And if it was day or night
And whether we were there alone
Or somebody was close by
But one thing I’ll always know
No matter what details fade
Is how much I loved you then
And how that has never changed
