Async Article Club
A way to create more opportunities for fluid content exploration
June 6, 2024
I think Book Clubs based on non-fiction are neat.
They allow for a group to have rich discussions alongside their reading, adding another dimension to what’s being learned by each participant.
But after attending a few, there are things I dislike, like:
- Reading a book in a Book Club takes months.
- Cram reading the agreed upon pages before the meeting.
- Feeling the need to participate in the greater conversation each meeting.
- Only reading 1 book is a narrow perspective.
- Participation is limited to those who were able to attend the meeting.
What if:
- It only took you 15 minutes to read a piece of content?
- You didn’t have to cram read the agreed upon content before a set time?
- You don’t have to participate in the greater conversation?
- You are able to get a broad perspective?
- Participation was not limited to those who were able to attend a synchronous meeting?
Sounds awesome, right?
I personally think so, and that’s why I’m going to pilot an “Async Article Club” to increase the likelihood of serendipitous idea discovery and connection.
What is an Async Article Club?
Similar to a Book Club, an Async Article Club is a form of collaborative group reading, but the content can be consumed in less than 1 hour and discussed asynchronously in writing.
